Maman is one of Louise bourgeois’ art work. There are some eggs in the middle of its stomach, under the huge spider’s legs, to protect her babies. This sculpture shows the great mother’s love. To keep her babies’ safety, she could be huge and hard, and even she could give her life to it.
What I am thinking about is, the cage under the spider means a kind of overprotection of mother to her children. She won’t let children out and get hurt, this love is a cage to their children. Children may feel chokey and want to escape, but mother just hope children are always good. It shows the relationship between mother and children, they are dragging each other.
